The ACT Stamp Duty Phase-Out

The ACT Government began phasing out conveyance duty for owner-occupiers in 2012 as part of a tax reform replacing it with an annual general rates charge (essentially a land tax). The phase-out increases the rates payable each year until stamp duty is fully abolished. This makes ACT stamp duty complex to calculate compared to other states — rates change each financial year.
